Howdy <3 Maddie here, the camera weilder at Ritual Intimates and I'm excited to guide you through some of my favorite ways to help to prepare for a boudoir session - and many of these tips can help you get ready for many types of photography sessions. At Ritual Intimates we celebrate your most authentic self by offering some help that goes beyond the session itself; before you even get to the studio it's important that you're feeling comfy to lean into this very rad experience you're about to embark on. And I get it - booking a boudoir session can be nervewracking af. Here are some helpful tips that will help you not only feel like you, but help you make the most of your boudoir experience.
Embrace Self-Care
Preparing for a boudoir session is a fantaaastic opportunity to relax, indulge in self-care, connect with our bodies.
Whether it's:
taking a relaxing bath,
going on a walk,
booking a massage
cooking your favorite meal,
ditching social media accounts that make you feel weird,
meditating,
journaling.
putting a spotify playlist together
or simply spending some quiet time with yourself,
nurturing your body and mind can help you feel more at ease. lean into these & sprinkle them into the days leading up to your session.
Lean Into The Nerves
It's 100000% natural to feel nervous, but try remember those nerves are a sign of excitement and anticipation. You might be doing this for the first time or it might be your 100th session (even I still even get nervous and excited before I have my photos taken).
Our minds are really powerful and do so much to protect us. If you're having anxiety about this, remind your brain of all of the GOOD what if's:
"what if this turns out really good?"
"what if I love my photos?"
"what if I have a lot of fun?"
"what if everything is okay?"
Even thinking about the possibility of the good stuff will better lead us to it <3 You are safe, and you are worthy.
So, lean into those nerves and let them fuel your experience. Trust this process and trust yourself because you are so capable of amazing yourself.
Shop with Happiness and Confidence in Mind
Boudoir can be so many things - and there are some amazing outfit options (or lack thereof) when it comes to the outfit selection part of the session prep process. While outfits are a component, they aren't as important as how said outfits make you feel. It's common to feel a little lost or overwlemed with the shopping part (don't fret, I send out a session outfit guide), but ask yourself this question - "what do I feel best in?"
When selecting outfits for your session, focus on pieces & inspo that bring you joy and confidence - this can be a fun time to explore these options. Find outfits or pieces that speak to you. Lingerie is just one option; you might also consider a favorite band tee, a satin sheet, or nothing at all (or a combo of all of these) - it's about whatever makes you feel amazing. I send out a curated outfit guide to all of my clients to help along with your selection process, and you'll have access to my client closet if you don't want to worry about it. The goal is to wear something that resonates with your personal vibe and makes you feel empowered.
Remember - Boudoir is a Feeling
Remember, boudoir is not just about the outfits and it goes beyond the photos; it's about the feeling. It's about capturing your essence and celebrating who you are at this moment.
The feeling of saying yes
yes I am worthy
yes I am allowed to take up space
yes I will indulge
yes I will see myself as art today
Let go of any preconceived notions you might have about boudoir and allow yourself to be present and authentic during the session experience.

A few extra boudoir session prep tips...
~ avoid self tanning & waxing if you're about a week away from your session
~ hydrate!!! do this always but especially leading up to your session :)
~ start packing your boudie bag the week before your session, throw your outfit options in there so it's less to think about and revist 2-3 days before session day
~ moisturize the night before & morning of your session
~ stretch out, boudoir can kind of be like yoga! implement some stretching into your daily routine as your session approaches
The art of boudoir goes beyond the boudoir session itself - creating something that resonates with your personal vibe and makes you feel empowered. This experience is about you, your journey, and celebrating you as the work of art that you are.
